The AI is ready. Is your enterprise? Built for AI argues the enterprise AI value gap is a capability problem, not a technology problem, and gives leaders the framework to close it.

AI adoption is soaring. AI investment is accelerating. Enterprise returns are not.
The problem is not the technology. The AI is ready. Is your enterprise? Built for AI shows leaders how to move beyond disconnected pilots and build an enterprise that turns AI investment into measurable business value and lasting competitive advantage.
Drawing on decades of hands-on experience implementing emerging technology inside global enterprises, Punit Vir and John H. Dobbs show why the organizations that win with AI will be the ones capable of absorbing it into their strategy, their workflows, their decisions, and the way they create value.
At the center of the book is the Built for AI Framework: the enterprise capabilities that together determine Enterprise Absorption Capacity, the organization’s ability to turn AI potential into measurable business value. Around the framework is a practical working toolset: the Built for AI Strategy Canvas, the Enterprise AI Pattern Map, the Enterprise AI Profile, the Vital Few, the Judgment Boundary, and the Built for AI Readiness Diagnostic.
Intelligence can be rented by the token. Enterprise capability must be built.

Escape the pilot trap: understand why promising AI initiatives stall before enterprise scale, and fix the underlying problem instead of funding another experiment.
Invest where it builds return: fund the Vital Few initiatives with a credible path to scale and payback, and stop the ones that do not.
Redesign work, not just automate tasks: change how decisions, handoffs, and accountability flow, so AI improves the workflow, not just the activity.
Show the value: turn AI spending into results the business can measure, while making every successful implementation leave the enterprise more capable than before.

The Built for AI Framework, the one diagram approved for editorial use
Because technical success and enterprise success are different things. AI may work perfectly while workflows, ownership, governance, data, adoption, and operating models remain unchanged.
It is the enterprise’s ability to absorb, operationalize, and scale new AI capability into measurable business value repeatedly, not just once.
Because workflows determine how decisions, information, handoffs, exceptions, accountability, and ultimately value move through the enterprise. Making one task faster does not necessarily improve the system around it.
The more useful question is not where AI reports. It is who has the decision rights and accountability to fund, redesign, govern, scale, or stop AI-enabled work.
The small number of AI initiatives an enterprise is genuinely prepared to fund, absorb, and scale. AI creates more plausible opportunities than any organization has capacity to pursue, so concentration becomes a strategic capability.
It is the deliberate boundary between what AI may do independently, where it recommends, where it must escalate, and where human judgment and accountability remain essential.

“AI is ready for deployment long before most enterprises are ready to absorb it.”
“Intelligence can be rented by the token. Enterprise capability must be built.”
“Ownership is not where AI reports. Ownership is who can decide.”
“In the end, organizations will not be defined by the AI they deploy. They will be defined by the enterprise they become.”
